ABOUT US

Fort Mitchell Garage has a long history as a family business, stretching back to 1900. Joseph Kuchle started a blacksmith shop with a machine shop in the back. He kept cans of gasoline in the back to run his equipment. As cars started running in this area, with no gas stations nearby, Joseph sold gas from his 55-gallon drums. He realized the need for this service, put a 2000-gallon tank in the ground and began selling gas.

Joseph expanded his business into automobile service & repair. The original building was finished in 1922 and is located at 1817 Dixie Hwy, the site of the former Kuchle Garage. Ft. Mitchell Garage was licensed to sell Tucker Automobiles. When Tucker could not deliver any cars, Crosley & Kaiser Fraziers were sold until the dealership part was closed in 1954.

In 1973, Tom & Leo Stamm, grandsons of Joseph, bought the corporation, name and much of the equipment from their dad & aunt. They relocated to the present site at 1420 Dixie Hwy. In 1999, the company completed a $1 million expansion & modernization. Space was created upstairs that is now used as a mini museum. It houses a 1923 cash register, original accounting books, plaques, awards and many pictures of family, the garage and the local area. The 1947 wrecker is still driven in local parades.

Ron joined his dad, Tom & Uncle Leo in the ownership of the garage in 1996 to carry on the family tradition. Great service has always been the goal of Ft. Mitchell Garage. So, from our family to yours, we are glad you are here!

PS: Ft. Mitchell Garage has NEVER been in Ft Mitchell! In 1918, Joseph wanted to rename his company to reflect the changes from horses to horsepower. Ft. Mitchell was the closest large city and most of his customers lived there, so it seemed an easy choice for the company name.
